The Alphabet Book of Appalachian Heritage

Linda Hager Pack will be visiting our school to share her book, A is for Appalachia! The Alphabet Book of Appalachian Heritage.

 

Ms. Pack loves her people and her place, and she hopes her book will encourage Appalachia’s children to be proud of their rich mountain heritage.

 

During the author’s visit, our students will be introduced to:

  1. the Place known as Appalachia

  2. the People who settled in the Appalachian mountains

  3. the ancient language brought to the mountains by our ancestors

  4. Appalachian music

  5. the flat foot dance

  6. a mountain ghost story

  7. a mountain Jack tale

  8. a candy breakin’

  9. a spelling bee

About the Author

 

Linda Hager Pack currently lives in Richmond, KY but she grew up in the small town of Hamlin, West Virginia where she was reared by her parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents to be a proper mountain youngun’. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Arts in Education from Eastern Kentucky University. In 1996 Kentucky’s Governor Paul Patton presented her the prestigious Ashland Oil Teacher Award.

 

Following the advice the author always gave her students, she decided to write about what she knows and what she loves: Appalachia
