A is for
Appalachia! The Alphabet Book of Appalachian Heritage
I have to talk about my publishers because they are so very dear to me. It was my second grade teacher who inspired me to decide I was a writer when she wrote at the top of one of my poems, “Linda this is very good. You should keep all of your poems.” It was Joe Paul Pruett who buoyed my spirits after I had received many rejection letters from other publishers, when he called in that wonderful southern voice of his to tell me that Harmony House Publishers planned to publish my manuscript about Appalachian heritage. And it was William Strode, President of Harmony House Publishers, who made my little-girl dreams come true when he published A is for Appalachia! The Alphabet Book of Appalachian Heritage in 2002. I appreciate Bill Strode and Joe Paul Pruett and I consider myself fortunate to be able to call these two fine gentlemen my friends. Thank you, Bill. You have blessed my life in more ways than my pen is able to write. I miss hearing your contagious laughter over the phone. A new president, Doug Bartholomew, took over the management of Harmony House in the summer of 2006. I appreciate Mr. Bartholomew and his strong effort to maintain the publishing excellence that Harmony House has always enjoyed. As we might say in the mountains, “Being an author at Harmony House is like “you’re a-eatin’ yer yaller cornbread all the time!”
